Leap Year, Mars Rising & Penis Dreams

Today is leap day, the extra day added to February in the Gregorian calendar created over 400 years ago as a fix for the irregularities of time division.


Our current calendar is a second pass by the Romans to move away from soli-lunar timekeeping into a purely solar framework by dividing the year into 12 months and then dealing with the extra days.


It moved the start of the year from March to January, mixed up the order of the months September - December to accommodate the Roman rulers and disconnected the calendar from the visible monthly cycle of the Moon.


With Daylight Savings Time coming right up on March 10th, we encounter another unnatural distortion of time that interferes with our circadian rhythm.


It's no wonder that so many struggle to stay centered and connect with the flow states of creativity when our timekeeping systems were created by empire consciousness!


If you are a heroine or hero of heart, you can work with the themes of the planets to support you on your journey of awakening to your full potential and fulfilling what you came here to do in these wild times.

Late February through late March often feel more foggy and dreamy but this week even more so. Mercury met up with the Sun in Pisces and then both of them met up with Saturn - the Taskmaster that is currently schooling us in the art of bringing structure, discipline and boundaries into the energetic and unseen worlds.


If you are around 56 years old, you have your Saturn in Pisces and currently have a grand opportunity to resolve addictions and claim more of your spiritual gifts and authority.


Venus as Morning Star is bringing us some beautiful, crystalline Aquarian perspective in this soupy time. She encourages us to zoom out as the Sun in Pisces invites us to dissolve and release anything that feels extra, outdated or energetically draining.


We are moving towards a potent eclipse season arriving during the time of March Equinox and the beginning of the astrological restart of the zodiac.


This is a sweet time to slow down into some deep dreaming into our vision of what new paradigm living feels like and how we want to contribute during this awakening time.


The vibe is going to get even more in-between-the-worlds when Venus changes from the Aquarius Water Bearer holding the vase to the Pisces Mermaid who dives into the vase and swims to the bottom of the ocean to teach us about greater vulnerability. That shifts on March 11th.


The 8 month Morning Star journey is an elegant cosmic support for the deconstruction of our identity to open us to greater soul understanding of who we truly are. We have two more months that resonate with this natural shedding before she disappears into Underworld.


It's wise to work with this part of the Venus cycle for the next 2 months to focus your inner work on releasing unsupportive patterns and fixed identities. This quality of support doesn't return for 19 months. The more open you can be for the Underworld dive, the better.


Mars and Venus are still riding close together giving us the opportunity to align our outer action in service to our the beauty of our inner vision.


I rose earlier yesterday and was blessed to see both Venus and Mars together rising in the east at 6 am. Mars was visible for maybe 5 minutes before he faded out into the rose gold haze on the horizon. See the amazing shot that astrologer, Gemini Brett, posted on IG below. He is an excellent teacher on the sky mechanics.


I took a nap later in the day after my morning viewing of Venus and Mars dreamt about penises. lol. Not in a sexy way but in the dream I was teaching on the symbolism of the phallus and the principle of personal power. I got a chuckle from that one.


Mars is the brave hero who goes forth into the world to achieve and protect what is sacred. He is Arthur in search of the Holy Grail, the alignment with the deep feminine of the body.


As we peel back the layers to see the extent of control in our current societal design, our calendar being one indicator of many, we have the opportunity to confront our feelings of powerlessness and find our courage to rise to overcome that programming.


Right now Chiron, the Wounded Healer is in Aries, the sign ruled by Mars, so personal power and the question "Who Am I" in this sea-change may be especially relevant.


If you were born May 1968 - March 1977, you are experiencing your Chiron return, and this is extra true for you.


Around 50-52, we get a chance to feel to heal a core wound. In Aries this may be a deep sense of impotence, a disconnect from the freedom to be fully alive and fully expressed emotionally. If you take advantage of this opening, you may emerge from this initiation realizing you are your own hero.


If you are like me, you've had many heartbreaks in the last 4 years as heroes and heroines that you once looked up to did not show courage in speaking out against the harmful agenda that swept the world. You may also have been disappointed by alternative leaders and influencers who stepped into the limelight and seemed to have fresh insight, until you saw they lacked integrity.


The new solutions likely are not going to come from leaders or "stars" in the culture - mainstream or alternative. They are going to come from the regular people on the ground. People with passion to shift towards a more life-affirming, caring culture in sync with nature who use their influence to make positive changes in their sphere.


We are the heroines and heroes of this time and our voice and stories are essential. This particular Venus in Leo cycle is an opportunity to find the courage to become more vulnerable and show up for what is ours to do.

I'm re-listening to Brene Brown's book, Rising Strong and she describes it well.

"Vulnerability is the birthplace of many of the fulfilling experiences we long for - love, belonging, joy, creativity, trust - just to name a few. The process of regaining our footing in the midst of struggle is where our courage is tested and our values are forged.

Rising strong after a fall is how we cultivate wholeheartedness in our lives. It's the process that teaches us the most about who we are."

To me, this is the marriage of Venus and Mars.
